hi
I’ve one almost melted piston. I’ve ordered a new one.
Question is should I change them all or is changing the 1 that’s burnt ok. It’s a td5 1999
Also while I’ve the engine out would it be good idea to change the piston rings at least on other pistons ?
Thanks in advance

you need to find out why ie poor injector

Seeing it'll be stripped, you really should be measuring the bores, pistons and ring gaps rather than just replacing based on assumptions.

Yep thanks I am going to measure them it was more the having one new piston in the engine that I was concerned about. I will remove everything and the order what i need.
Thanks for your help

if the others are ok dont remove them ,but obviously you need to measures piston and rings before fitting, theres nothing wrong with replacing 1 failed piston in an other than that good engine

Thanks
When i remove the head Im thinking of taking the engine out to change the piston. If i dint have to i wont. Question is does the sump come off easily from under the car or do i need to remove loads of stuff first. If it comes off I can then change the piston easily .
Any recommendations would be good
New head arrived so photos of the whole operation to follow
