Ok guys I need some advice on something.

My lannie was first registered after March 1st 2001 and it's looking like I'll be looking at a ridiculous bill on my annual road tax renewal.

When I bought the vehicle the document was sent off.
After over 2 months the V5 document had still not arrived.
I checked with DVLA and they confirmed my fears that it's lost in the post as they've no record of it arriving with them.

So I've had to start the registration from scratch...
So I'm filling out the vehicle registration cert (V62) and I've a cunning plan.

My landrover is a van type with no seats in the rear and no windows on the sides (save the driver and passenger side).

With this in mind I'm going to try and get it registered as a light goods vehicle. This means I don't get hammered with Gordon Browns poll tax on wheels bs he's introduced.

Is this an easy process? Do I have to jump through hoops?
I've got my own company.

my only thought is that it'll definitely be subject to the £100 a day LEZ charge that they're bringing in if you reg it as a LGV. That won't be a problem if you don't drive in london though

Nice one.

I was wondering if there'd be any bs about fitting a tachograph or something.
But I think that's for HGVs.

Bollocks.
 If yu are towing for business use and driving is your main profession. yu need a tachograph. If you're a builder etc and working within a fixed radius of the registered address of the vehicle (25miles IIRC) then a tacho is not required.

I've posted the VOSA rules on this on here somewhere last year.

basically Driving must be your main profession so Courier, Recovery driver etc. then yu need a tacho.

If you're a builder or painter decorator etc and you've got a trailer full of materials or a mini digger on the back you don't need a tacho unless you're outside of the permissible distance.

Unless you bought it new and it was not pre registered by the dealership the DVLA will have a record of the initial registration details which means if you want to change the taxation class you will have to provide evidence by means of a VOSA engineer's report. You can't just fill the forms in otherwise everyone would be doing it.
I believe that 110 and LWB van Landys have different rules than 90s and SWBs regarding the commercial taxation class purely because of the configuration and weight carrying capability.

My mate has a 110 van which requires a different MOT because he has a bulkhead behind the front seats. A 110 CSW does not have the bulkhead so should not be classed as a "Utility Vehicle" although many mistakenly are.

Well mine must be incorrectly classed in first place as it's got a bulk-head behind the front seats.
It was also part of a drilling company's fleet carrying heavy bags of cement about in.

I also emailed DVLA about this vehicle and they are in dark.

So I think I'm going to roll the dice on this one :)

Rules on what needs a tacho

EC Regulation 3820/85 applies to drivers of vehicles exceeding 3.5 tonnes permissible maximum weight (including the weight of any trailer drawn) used for the carriage of goods on a road open to the public, whether laden or unladen, within the United Kingdom or when on a journey to, from or within other member states of the European Union.

and the distance thingy is 62 miles or 100km not the 25 I said earlier.
