Tapping / knocking noise from engine

hey

just changed some injectors on my 2003 TD6 now there is a loud tapping noise coming from the engine. Ive been trying to search the issue and some people have came back and said its a faulty injector. can anyone confirm this?

also will pulling the wiring out the top of each injector stop it from working so i could check which one it is or would that not work? thanks

Seeing as it needs lectric to make it work then yes remove a connector off an injector if knocking stops then that one could be faulty.

ok so i tried removing each wire from the 6 injectors and with all 6 the knocking noise is still happening does anyone know what this could be?

Were the injectors new ,If so might have shipping oil in them ,Had this in the past piston slaps about ,cause cylinders not firing and it clatters or an air lock in one of the injectors or, When you moved the wiring ,a broken wire to injector ,they are prone to breaking i believe

f,ing scary ,...DIDNT drop any thing down the injector port i hope

Why were they changed to start with?

they were used bought from ebay so i could of been sold fautly ones as for the reason they were changed. i was getting white smoke on start up and the engine started to run bad at times its been getting worse over the months from what i read up people say its the injectors. 2 of the injectors were stuck hard into the engine once i got them out they were full of carbon and had a smell to them i guessed it was these 2 injectors that needed replacing. i ended up replacing 4 injectors in the end but after taking it for a run last night the car drives worse now and has the loud tapping noise.

if when taking the wires off injectors and no change ,might be a broken loom ,i think there prone to it white smoke could be a bad glow plug or plugs....GET one of the old injectors n put the for each injector wire on it ,with it in a clear bottle of some sort start it if no fuel bad wire ,try more than one injector as the one you first try might be faulty ,don"t remember if these cars ,need coding to injectors...

Any chance of uploading a video / audio file of the 'tapping' noise ...

Always get the old Injectors tested, most places will waver the test fee if you have them rebuilt and be very careful about second hand units.

thanks for the responses. whats a broken loom? sorry not up to date with these things. ive just bought an injector leak off test kit ill test the injectors soon as it arrives.

is it possible to start the engine with the engine manifold off without causing damage? its a pain to put it all back together just to test it then having to undo it all again.

ill upload an audio file of the noise once i get started on it this week. thanks everyone

The wiring loom.Check for broken wires..you can run without the manifold but make sure there is nothing near to get sucked into the engine

Use the search bar ,top right I'm sure I remember someone having problems with a brittle wiring loom.think you will find replacement looms on the Bay.
