Taking off chequer plate

So I want to remove the chequer plate from the top of my wings for re-painting starting to flake and look crap, only thing is the person who fitted them decided to stick them down with some unknown substance rather than bolting them. What’s the best way to remove them with out damaging the paint and metal work. Would heating them up and gently prizing them up work?
 
They are likely stuck on with sikaflex or ismilar panel adhesive. Hopefully not silicone!! Fishing line or kruse wire will be best for removing it from the wings but getting the remains of either panel will be a mare. Not a problem if you are refitting the chequer plate! Mine hides a multitude of squaddie sins!!
 
+ 1 for the fishing line, recommend braided tho ...

Kettle of hot water helps to soften it, as the sun is not strong enough even in Kernow in March/April ...
 
Mine were (most still are) stuck with silicone and rivets and were a bit of a pain to get off. Once the ally plate is off comes the hard part of removing the silicone. Even the 'proper' silicone remover didn't touch mine and I ended up using a cup brush on an angle grinder and re-painting!

.... and that was only the sills ... If I felt like removing the bonnet and front wings I'd buy new parts. Seriously!

How did you get yours off did you use the fishing line trick? Luckily the only chequer plate on my truck is the wings at the minuet! if I end up damaging the paint I’m not to worried as they need some work and abit of a respray at some point, plus hopefully the chequer plate will cover up the worst of the damage.
 
Drilled all the rivets out and basically use a bread knife, after trying lots of 'long thin things' ... Some of it was degraded due to mud/sand ingress over the years it'd been on so it was mostly easy to remove the plate, just not so the silicone ...
 
Probs your best bet mate. What kind of knob does that!

I can ramp up on the OP. Back in the late 'sixties I bought a Ford Zephyr & couldn't understand why the front suspension was lower on the N/S when there didn't seem to be a problem with the Macpherson strut. Closer examination revealed that some nob of a previous owner had filled a large dent in the wing not with filler but, I kid you not, concrete o_O:(
