T reg td5 floppy gear stick

Hi my friend has bought a t reg td5 and its got a floopy gear stick the guy he bought it from told him it just needs a spring in the top of the box is this the case or is it moor complicated would apreciate all the info I can get as I seem to be the one who has to look at this problem for him in the next few days many thank in addvance

remove consol and gaiter ,there are 2 springs one either side of lever ,and a bias plate with a vertical tab which holds springs in correct position so lever rests at 3rd 4th alignment ,tab will have broken off

As James said the tab will have broken off the bias plate.

Either weld it back on, or buy a new one at about a fiver from your local LR dealer.
