Can Anyone tell me if they have fitted a Synergy 2 to a freelander Td4 and if it has put the cost of Insurance up ?
At present I am with Aviva and pay enough insurance as it is. Thanx in advance. I.J.

Standard insurance companies quoted me about £100 extra with a lot of them refusing to quote because of the modification. I ended up with Flux Direct who quoted me £30 more than a standard non modified quote & the insurance was even cheaper than I'd been paying the year before.

When ours came up I declared - Synergy2, Cruise Control, EGR Bypass, towbar/caravan and Direct line upped the stakes nearly £100.
Taking advice on here asked Flux - same cover all mods inc. and cheaper cover than last year - nice one Landy Zone.

Rover Ron sells a Sunergy 2E which gives more torque and no BHP increase for this very purpose

hi

im with the AA and advised them of the mods together with the web links and they advised me there would be no extra charge.

i did go into it and ask them why there wouldnt be any extra on my premium they advised me its MPG tuning aids and as i was over 40 im not in the boy racer age.

to say the least i was very suprised considering other ins are charging extra, i also put it in writing as i want to make sure

it costs my wife and i £450 fully comp with a £450 excess on any claim i make to damage to my car, £75 windscreen excess.

also is it worth telling the insurance companies, couldnt you deny any of it saying it must have always been there?

Not reporting a mod like this to insurance companies will only cause them to refuse a claim if they found it. I don't think telling them you didn't know would work. They're decision would probably go against you. Often they do inspections on cars prior to repairing them. If found it would invalidate your insurance, your claim, and on future insurance requests, when asked if you've ever been refused insurance, you'd be saying yes. Not worth the cost.

Sorry to rant on.

I have just bought a 2005 Freelander TD4 and, having had a Synergy 1 in my Megane 1.9 (which I naively didnt declare), I swear by them. So, I have ordered a Synergy 2 plus Pieburgh MAF for the Freelander. When I told AA insurance my premiun went from £289 to £580! I have tried Flux after reading this thread and they quoted £450. Tesco didn't want to know. I still reckon the Synergy is worth it though, the Megane was a completely different car and to top it all Ron have part exchanged the 1 for the 2!

Once again this is entirely dependant on your insurer so you should always check directly with them rather than canvasing for opinions. :(

My wife's TD4 is insured through Shiela's Wheels and a chip or mod resulting in 10% or less increase in BHP made no difference to the premium and if declared at the time of renewal did not attract an admin fee either, a power increase of over 10% was worked out on a case by case basis. Of course any change in spec that is declared is recorded on the policy but sometimes they don't affect the premium.

Check directly then declare it for a trouble free life.:D

since this posting my renewal insurance back in march has increased to just over £950 fully comp including the mods ive done, they advised me insurance has gone up 40% but i havent got any no claims bonus as this is my first car with my own insurance.

like hippo quite rightly says i listed everything that ive done to it and theyve said there is no extra charge which i find strange as im also with the AA and others have said they had an extra charge.

ive covered myself as they confirmed they recieved the modifications but woulfd they list it onto my insurance document as i cant find anything on there, i think i better recheck as like hippo says i dont want to get caught out

I`ve just got myself a synergy 2 and maf sensor and am really pleased with the results. Finding an insurer though has caused a few head aches. The AA wont insure me and ive been given the company Adrian Flux to try. I havent told my insurer yet in case they refuse me and i have to pull it all out again.
Its amazing what you have to declare on the " any modifications" list, i fitted a new satnav/stereo to my freelander a while back and from what i gather that is classed as a modification too.
I will call Flux this evening and see what the result is and then weigh up weather its cost effective to keep the synergy fitted.

Insurance for mods is becoming more difficult. Jap imports have become more difficult over the years. Will be more difficult for those with mods which boost power, like the synergy, in years to come.

Radio was talking about insurance premiums for those out of work. It’s goes up. Why? You’d think they wouldn’t use their car as much. Hence staying the same. This is not the case. Someone out of work is more likely not to service and repair the car. More likely to put in a claim. Likely to be driving round looking for work… All this adds up to 30% increase in the eggsample given which cost the bloke £100 extra. So that creates the question: If I insure my vehicle and loose my job 2 months after, do I have to notify my insurer…

It’s about time the insurance industry had a full on investigation into the prices they charge, the services they prevoke shorry provide, and the benefit to the customer. Bastids.
