My swivel pin housing is leaking a little oil on full locks mainly. What would happen if the oil all ran out while I was going would I have a problem or would it be ok? I need to make a 100mile trip tomorrow and I am having visions of things burning up and destroying itself.

I could top it up before I left.

I have 2 packets of that stuff LR make 1 shot grease, on order to replace the oil in them both with that.

Basicly the pins fit into tapered bearings all of which are sitting in an oil bath. The pins/bearings don't rotate in the normal sense - mearly the rotation from lock to lock so no high rotational speed friction overheating will occur.

If you've the time drain out whats in there and replace with fresh oil before your journey. This will be preparatory work prior to filling with the one shot grease. You'll probably find that what you drain out will be be thick and full of rust & mud - best to get rid of this before putting the expensive grease in and contaminating it unecessarily. When you change the grease replace the seals at the same time - but cheat by cutting the new seal and fit without removing the hub & swivel housing. You can super glue the cut back together. Fit the seal with the cut at the top - open the drain plug at each service as any water getting in will accumulate in the bottom of the swivel housing.

Until then - if the oil leak is bad and the mud shields are shot - then you may run the risk of getting it onto the brakes.

Noooo when Prince changed his name to a symbol news reporters called him the artist previously called Prince. How do you pronounce 8{|>? Cos I can't be arsed to find the keys to type 8{|>.

oh rr that's the job..best to cut the bugger at an angle for added stuff..it helps it to seal if it's cut at an angle.i do believe

true

I'd buy 3 seals & do both sides - one will either be superglued to your thumb  or get contaminated with crud and not stick! [sods law & all that].

well 2 thumbs = 5 seals so 1 thumb =2.5 seals
therefor you want 1.5 times 2.5 so you need 3.75 seals
you then have to round that figure up and you come to a total of 4 seals
so grunt you will have to buy four seals
or 1 walrus
