I am going to wire in my rear work light into my reverse lights, with a switch to turn it on and off so it does not always come on.
I have gone to the breakers yard, and came out with a new switch in my pocket (gotta love old school breakers yards) and now to wire it in. The switch i have got is an air con switch with 5 wires out the back of it....from memory

Anyone got an idea which wires to put where? One wire would be a feed from the sidelights, which i will probably take from the heated screen switch, then surely all i need is an input+output. Thats only 3 of the 5 wires used.

I have looked at some wiring diagrams, but i cant find what i need to. Maybe im just blind.
This is the link i was using:
http://macassemble.com/lrm/freelander/Freelander Electrical Circuits (2004).pdf

Although my freelander is 2000, i wouldnt think the wiring for the switch would be all that different?

from a 200 L series diagram you have 5 wires
1 goes to temp switch
2 Earth
3 sidelight
4 goes to blower/motor switch
5 live

all i have done above is looked at a 200 model switch and what is above is where the wires go to on the switch

hope it can be of some use to you

Switch pretty sure switch came out of a pre 2000 freelander, grey bumpers.
So I can ignore 1, send 4 to my relay and keep all the rest the same. I have 2 loose plugs on my loom, I wonder if the pins 1,3 and 5 are the same and I can cut cut the other 2 wires and send my 4 to the relay

then wiring it all that way and the tratter boys would be clapping their hands at someone else setting their freelander on fire , here is what to do have a relay, and you just need the exciter wire to come off you reverse lights so it switches the relay on and then have a pos and neg wire coming from your battery with a fuse on each ,and connect to the relay then you need the wires going to the work light and put a fuse in line , then you will be safe and no more fires

The point of the switch was to trigger the relay (see post 4) thus making the work light only come on with the reverse light when I want it to. I don't want to dazzle everyone in tescos every time I put it in reverse

Hi bud. You need a three position switch. Run the relay etc with power and feed the light as usual. On the trigger side connect the common terminal if the switch to the trigger terminal on the relay. Tap into the reverse circuit and connect to switch. Take an ignition switched live to the other terminal on the switch. This should give you the ability to have the work light on with reverse lights. On permantly or off

If your wiring it to a switch why domt you just ignore the reverse ligbt and wire it to a switch with relay then you can use it out of reverse also?
And theres loads of on/off toggle switches out there..

I think I'm going to need to draw a diagram to explain myself. I know what I need to do, and I know how to do it safely. I shall also add my rear work light will be on with my ignition. I have another led for perm live feed

I shall try to draw one next time I am on a computer instead of my phone, might take a while
