I am hoping someone can give me a rough check list
of what's needs doing or rather undoing to remove
the body please - have been through the manual but
would appreciate a bit of guidance please. I am not doing
a complete re-build but getting the body off would make life
easier for the work I am planning.
Thanks

Are you replacing a section of the chassis for the mot?, or doing some welding?
The rear beam of mine looks as though it might be req for the test, If so I'm planning unbolting the tub, then just jacking up the rear 18" or so just enough to get in to do the work, that way everything can stay in place, 'cept for the tank pipes and wires.
Maybe you can do summat similar.

I have enough blocks/chains/jacks/beams to do the lift but where do I start the unbolting - so far the steering shaft & the bolts above the rear crossmember..........

some more i can think of ... not exhaustive ... assuming you lift body complete

- bottom of front radiator panel, rad hoses (rad stays with panel for lift), may need to remove rad shroud if still fitted to clear engine fan
- bottom of bulkhead, long bolt on each outrigger (good luck!)
- front of rear tub, 2 bolts on each outrigger & 4 on crossmember/seatbelt mounts
- fuel filler hose
- speedo cable
- wiring connectors to engine & connectors down by steering box to rear lights
- brake line from master cylinder
- flexible clutch hose
- accelerator linkage
- choke if it's petrol
- heater controls if it's a series 3
- if it were me I'd keep the steering box attached to the bulkhead-to-chassis bracket, undo the track rod end on the steering box drop arm to split the steering system, and undo the 6 long bolts that go through the chassis to attach the bulkhead-to-chassis brackets (ie, steering column, box, droparm and brackets to chassis all stay with the bulkhead when lifted)

good luck ... a forklift would be easier!

oh yeah, and ...
- heater hoses if it's a s3
- removing transmission tunnel will help you clear the gearstick (& overdrive lever if fitted)
- removing handbrake lever will help you clear the seatbox
- removing drivers floorplate will help you clear the transfer box levers

by the time you've done all that you might almost as well take the body off in bits, most of it is fairly manageable, it comes apart fairly readily.

Thanks very much - just what I was after - could take the doors off
to save a bit of weight as well.
Thanks again

tending to work alone on these things I'd be thinking in terms of using the backhoe on my digger.

how many of you did it take to lift it, how complete was it and what Landy was it?

My mate has a jcb but no backhoe just the front bucket but in non technical speak the tyres are taller than I am so figured that chains
could solve the problem...
