On a 300tdi disco,
Manual sunroof with the winder,
Opened fine, but now its stuck half open and wont move,
Is there anyway to force it closed without the winder?

Knew i shouldnt have touched it

Can you get it to go back the other way by jiggling the handle a bit at a time,if you get it open and then get some good releasing fluid with the straw in the cap give everything a mega dose of that and let it soak in then try moving it back and forth. Its probably the inner cable snagging against the out from rust/ crap got in

Oh bugger don't know what to suggest now except brute force and ignorance! Grab it with some mole grips or big parrot jaw pliers and give it what for

Ill give it a go tomorow now, underneath the handle is a square drive thing and a pin, where would i grab the cable from?

If i cant do anything to close it, ill have to just rip it off and rivet an aluminium peice on top.

Was hoping you'd be able to see the cable and grab it, I'm no sunroof engineer! When more peeps get on here a bit later I bet somebody will know a way of doing it.not much you can't get done on this forum

Remove the glass, that will give u access to both the left & right drive cables and the winder, if the problem is the lack of lubrication u will easily see, doubtful as the drives are greased, may find that one or more of the nylon slider/ rollers that are within the track has broken therefore its now jammed, if so your in trouble as there's no available spare part, you can removed the blockage if that the issue an close the glass but it won't sit tight on the seal until repaired or replaced.

A mate had this issue with a sunroof, so he purchased a replacement from eBay which was rubbish so I stripped it completely for him just for the bits, what we didn't keep we sold and made a small profit so purchase another chewed sunroof to strip down to the bare bones to keep as spares for both our vehicles.
For a bit of fun last summer I purchased a sunroof that didn't work, so stripped it, replace the iffy part, repainted it an put it back on eBay the profit paid for the beer I consumed out in the summer sun for an afternoon doing the repairs :)
