Since I have brought the Hippo I have been finding little faults as you would expect from old freelander.. One annoying one for me is the sunroof..it will retract fine.. but bringing it back into its rightfull place is a NO NO .. it clicks like mad.. i have to get out of the car and get the wife to press the button as i help it along its path .. it wont go back in its place unless i am gently pushing it from behind... i am guessing the cogs are cheap plastic things..
or is something more sinister.. ?? one of the front supporting bars is some what rusty aswell... i am guessing at some point it may have had some water build up somewhere.. as the bar will either need to be replaced or fixed up somehow ..

any else have or had this issue with the sun roofs ..??
its a 1.8 W Reg 1999/2000

tried spraying some WD40 thinking it may have been sticky.. but nope

what is happening is your sun roof rails and cables are getting either clogged up or worn more than likely worn you can but the new rails and cables but you also want a new cog wheel which you can get of EBay if you do a search it tells you what to do, without the new wheel ,well you might as well not bother with the other bits, if you are not capable of changing the cog wheel then buy a new motor do not buy a second hand one as that cog wheel will be just as bad as the cog wears in the middle where it pulls the cables.it is easy to do all of the work required I just whish I had taken photos while doing it.

I had my mechanic have look over it.. And was told it needed a new motor and regulator.. How much are these to buy?? It's not a major issue but will need doing soon..

you do not need a new motor do a search on here and you will find your answer you just need a new gearing on the motor and new cables .
