was wondering best way to sort out pin hole on sump, could i weld this in place with oil drained(mig),or araldite rfepair it or is it easy enough to take off...300tdi disco:rolleyes:

ye just a small hole but enough to make a mess...

Self-tapping screw fitted with a thin copper washer that the screw needs to screw into, all slobbered in Loctite, and screwed in firmly.

A good trick is to drive in a small self-tapper first, then fit in one a size bigger with the washer and Loctite.

Make sure the screws go in straight.

Keep an eye out for other pinholes developing.

The cause is poor quality steel, rolled into sheet-steel but with crap on it during rolling. A bit of crap gets rolled into the steel, and soon enough it rusts through at the spot.

i welded mine with the arc ;) with the oil still in, touched the spot with a grinder then a spot of weld,

That would be OK if the hole was well under the surface of the oil, BUT if it was at the surface level of the oil you could set the oil on fire inside the engine!

I don't think this would much harm, but it definitely would not do any good.

yeah , it was right on the bottom of the sump, but for the amout of weld time , 2 seconds ish it was cold to the touch straight away
