It is a rebuild ! but with only TWO wheels ! Hope you don't mind ? & it's tuff if you do :p:p !
Sorry no pics Before I stated to strip it down:oops: Surfice to say the Bike A Virago 535 was looking a bit NEGLECTED ! The only GOOD thing was two NEW tyres & the Paint on the TANK :)
Bought it as A NONE runner & sussed out it HAD BAD FUEL in the tank:( NEW FUEL & had it running like a good un ! :D Also in the Grotto is a VN1500 new to me last september but needed a few jobs sorting so off the bench with Ange's 535 & on the bench with the 1500 ! unbe known to me Ange would SNEEK in the grotto to have a crafty peek:eek: & one day she came in & said ! Your's is shinier than mine  so I said do you wont your has shiney asmine ? YES was the answer :) So started looking for PAINT & flee bay for Idea's on wot the finnished bike should/would look like!
Few phone calls later & found a firm out Chestefield way that could match the Paint on the Tank:D With enough primer & Laqure for BOTH bikes:):)!
So the Strip down started & it's in a Zillion bits !:(
So the start of the Paint job !

Nice work there :) - I love bikes, marvelous things and loads of fun :)

I've still got my V-Max, not ridden it in years, due me health, and really should sell it.... but then again ..... I'll get round to it ....... maybe ;)

Watching :)

So wot to with the rest  !
Well the fork legs had rust pits in them & I hate rusty fork legs  So strip them down for rechrome :) Now wot to do with the Frame:rolleyes: ! Find a Powder coater that knows wot they are doing:rolleyes:! found one in Worksop:) ! & actually eddicated them while on the phone:D
Gloss black 9005 on the frame & a few brkts ! Silver on swing arm, wheels, side cases off motor, fork bottoms, handle bars,& a few bits & bobs
Did tell them that IF the cases were pited to ring me before they coated them ! they did so I had a drive over to have a look & They were pited where the chrome had come off So on it with the D/A ! Whilst there had a word with the lad that was doing the coating & he said that they didn't have 9006 silver  so had a look at wot they DID have & spoted a box that said CHROME on it:) PROPER inpressed with the results :D:D
So a few more pics on the rebuild

I haven't had one on the road for about 15yrs Ange about 8yrs so will be fun:eek::eek::oops: !

Interesting bike the Vmax, Mate had one. Big power differences depending on where they were originally sold and if they came with the valve system fitted.

Preferred my, Genesis Thou. ...LOL

That is looking sweet @Magicgrotto .

I keep thinking about a bike, but then realise I spend enough time fixing the Landies. Plus roads around here are terrible, holes everywhere, and idiot furriners driving. Make sure you and Ange are careful old bean.

Cheers

 Have LESS of the OLD @neilly:mad:;):p Don't worry will have two way coms so that i can shout at Ange if she duz owt silly ;) !

Hey, no worries - apologies back at ya, as I'm not getting alerts about watched threads ATM :eek:o_O...

Trike sounds like an idea - did start building one out of a mini 30 years ago - 400/4 front end - but didn't ever finish it. I do agree that the V-Max is harder to ride than most - steers by weight shifting only - handle bars are just somewhere for your, er, ... hands :D...

We're both liking the work so far :)

Interesting bike the Vmax, Mate had one. Big power differences depending on where they were originally sold and if they came with the valve system fitted.

Mine's a full power one from Japan, and it really does go like stink - can imagine the valveless ones being a slug and fairly pointless - it's a heavy bike, and needs all the beans it can get - ran mine on 110LL avgas for a while = OM*G  = lot's of fun though;)
