I wondered if there were any parts on the P38 made by SU. I had an agency job in the summer of 96, after finishing uni, taking parts from SU into the LR plant in Solihull. I always thought it was for the very last of the Classics but curiosity has got the better of me.

Early V8s had two SU carbs.

I worked on them in the 1970s when they first came out. Cannot recall any fitted with Strombergs. But they were both reasonably easy to tune. As far as i recall SU had a fixed needle with a jet adjustment nut on the bottom. And Stromberg a fixed jet and the needle adjuster inside the dashpot.

The SU certainly had an adjustable jet, I thought that, like the Stromberg, the needle was also adjustable. Maybe we had non standard needles on the race stuff. I always preferred the Stromberg.

Needle on SU was fixed in bottom of dashpot by a screw. and jet adjustment was a nut on a spring at the bottom as far as i recall. Stromberg had a fixed jet and a sprung adjustable needle inside the dashpot. Still have the carb balancing tools and special tool for adjusting Stromberg needle somewhere in garage.

I've seen a fair few RRC V8s with strombergs, and bust diaphragms
They are listed in the parts list. But i worked on them when they first came out, cannot remember one fitted with Strombergs, they were all SU equipped if i recall correctly.
