any thoughts much appreciated

How much you looking at spending? They should be around.

What Mileage u looking at.

What model?

Have u had a Landy before? They arnt the same as other cars, so remember this when your looking at them.

My advice - steer clear of the Td5s! Just replaced an early Td5 90 with a late 300Tdi 110 and so far (had it just over a week but put 1500 miles on the clock so far) and it's far nicer in every respect (apart from trying to park it in a tight garage in London) to the Td5.

Drives better on the road and is quieter. Will sit at 70mph with ease and maintain 80 should you so wish. In fact I'd say that it's better up the hills (thinking Heads of the Valleys) than our Shogun which I certainly was not expecting...

There must have been something seriously wrong with your TD5 if it could not sit at 70mph easier than a Tdi.

That there is no doubt - a quick list of the major problems we had with it:
  1. ECU blew up
  2. "Explosive" oil leak from cam shaft
  3. Failed brake servo
  4. Radiator pipe blew up
By contrast the new 110 is a beauty and has had an upgraded camshaft fitted - apart from one or two spots which need touching up on the bodywork it's in superb condition, one previous owner since new and 69k on the clock when we got it.

Plus, parts are going to be a damn sight cheaper, repairing the ECU was £1200 when the Td5 was £5400 when we got it...

Well the brake servo and radiator pipe could have gone on any derivative Landy.
Granted the ECU can be expensive if you buy new from LR but there are more than a few on fleabay for around the £100 mark.
And what Landy dont leak oil at some stage in its life?
I'd not swap my TD5 for a Tdi for all the tea in China but each to their own.

It wasn't so much the ECU but the wiring harness had to be replaced and the labour that went into doing that (we simply didn't have the time to do it ourselves).

I'll admit most Landys have a leak or two but this one was driving down the M4 when the cap came off the cam-shaft and was pouring oil, not so much a leak as a torrent.

I might go for a late Td5 but certainly not the early ones - but then again I have a Series III and the appeals because of both the comfort and the simplicity. Although I suspect if I were going to get another Landy for general use I'd probably go for a D4 if I had the money.

Yeah I know what you mean I used to have a very tidy SWB SIIa petrol which I regretted selling especially as the muppet that bought it just let it rot in his front garden for nearly four years before scrapping it. Still I needed the cash with kids on the way so whats done is done.
