Freelander 2 (LR2) Strange tailgate lock behaviour

Bit odd this one, and only cropped up in the past week.
Lock the car using the keyfob in the usual way. Mirrors fold, all doors and tailgate locked.
Press unlock once; driver's door unlocked.
Press unlock a second time; all the other doors unlock but tailgate remains locked. Didn't used to.
Press the tailgate unlock button and it unlocks.

Have I inadvertently reprogrammed the locking sequence? If so, how to I put it back to the way it was? ie. Two presses of unlock unlocks all the doors including the tailgate.

Sounds like a faulty switch or wiring on the tail gate release button.

As above, faulty switch on the handle, common problem.

Seems odd that it should work perfectly using the tailgate button on the fob though.
Also noticed it locks when tailgate closed.

The body control module can get a signal from either they key fob radiolink or the pushbutton on the back door. It then sends a signal to the boot release. So the radio link from the key fob and the boot release are both working which only leaves you with the pushbutton on the boot lid.

Ah, thicko me has finally got it. Unlocking the car should unlock the tailgate.
Pressing the ‘open tailgate’ button on the fob pops the tailgate latch as if you’d pressed the handle. ‘scuse me for being so slow.

It's not odd at all.
The CJB powers the tailgate lock directly, either when it receives the radio signal, or when it receives an unlock signal from the tailgate microswitch.
There's no mechanical connection between the tailgate release button on the handle, and the lock, it's all electronic.
However if the microswitch doesn't work, then there's no signal sent to the CJB, so the tailgate lock doesn't release when it's pressed, but as the radio signal is independent, the tailgate lock will still release remote boot release button is used.

By the way CJB (central junction box) is another name for body control module. It is one of the many “computers” (micro controllers) on a freelancer 2
