Hi There
I drive a Discovery 3 (2008) and have had the misfortune of some thieving lowlife stealing the detachable part of my towbar (the swan neck part with ball on the end and green 'twisty thing'). By the look of it, just to replace the swan neck bit with ball, it's going to cost in the region of £200.
Is anyone able to confirm please that this is the only bit I need to replace and not all the flippin electrics as well? Any advice gratefully received. Thank you

Welcome in unfortunate circumstances. If just the swan neck has gone it should be just a new neck you need. Most of the ones left on cars don't detach !
So your lucky yours did , but unlucky not to keep it inside the car

Hi
Thanks for the reply. I've had the car 3 yrs and never even looked properly at it to see whether it could detach. Obviously I've learned a harsh lesson and when I buy a replacement, when I'm not towing, it'll be detached and out of sight! I notice that any new ones have a little red key with them and either mine didn't have one I.e. No option to lock on it or the key was actually in the flippin thing which was why it was easy to remove:mad:

Never did get ours to separate! But we have a nice adjustable one now courtesy of JLR on their callback scheme, was yours ever checked?
Hi
No it was never checked although I've had the car serviced regularly by a garage that knows land rovers. I'm just left with a 'gap' where I'm assuming the original swan neck slotted into. I'll be keeping the replacement one under lock and key when it's not in use!
