Hi all, unfortunately a team of guys stole my discovery 2015 model, this morning from outside my house in Whitley Bay, Tyne and Wear according to SOCO they watched my cctv footage and suggested it was by using keyless entry, only took the thieves about 4 minutes. Please see photo 2015 model disco 4 gold colour Aruba is the correct colour

This is becoming commonplace, l find it appalling that it is so easy to steal vehicles today, it’s no better than in the 1980’s when you could start my Triumph Herald with any key that would go in the slot.
That’s over a years wages for me (to buy a car like that) stolen in four minutes.
And very little will be done about it. The insurance will pay out and the thieves will be snorting with laughter as they load it on to the container.
Meanwhile, somebody gets a load of Police time, court appearance and big fine for speeding on a deserted motorway at 3am in the morning

Sorry to hear about your Disco, as I am only a couple of miles away in Tynemouth!
Hopefully, you have a tracker fitted?

I could not believe the theives only have to use a booster outside my house and collect my key code, then off they go in a 50k discovery, SOCO said even with tracker they drive them into a container and it’s signal is gone, so called smart keys should be kept in a tin container apparently, could Landrover not inform us of such simple fixes

I have a gut feeling my landy is still close by, police picked it up on a camera in Benton area, it will have new plates by now, so keep an eye out for brand new plates on a 2015 gold discovery hse lux

sorry to hear ur d4 getting nicked, heard they can nick a car in 20 x seconds

know it’s not much help now but for future keys should be stored in a faraday bag , or turn off the keyless entry system, inc buying a disc lock

there are different tracker systems , so if driven inside a container the signal can still be tracked

Thanks for the guidance, I will take it on board, but I think I need to win the lotto to have another car like that, it’s my second landy first was disco 3, always loved landys, and would love a defender, never say never, still grieving

hi

hope the ins company soon sort the claim out so u can at least get mobile again

had landies 30 x years and must admit do like my D3 , first disco i’ve had and best one so far

fenders are indeed very nice , but easily nicked if security isn’t beefed up

will u get another D4, any update on urs plse

+1 - OP, I feel for you. IME, get yourself a Loss Assessor to fight your corner with the Insurance company.

indeed ,ref the adjuster , more than likely to get various offers , times like this when u find out if the ins co is any good

know it’s not in the same class , but many years ago had my escort Mk 1 nicked and my heart sank, found it 2 x days later a mile away , was completely undamaged apart from the ign , police said someone more than likely just nicked it to get home

know it’s not the point but at least can now turn the keyless system off in the D4s , but we all know if they want ur vehicle they will find a way to nick it

Very sad, you must be really miffed off to put it mildly, I purchased my LR4 last November and I absolutely love it, I learnt about this type of animal just before Christmas so I purchased a metal cash box £5, tomorrow I’m going to glue aluminium foil to the inside of the tin, my wife carry’s the spare key which we have also wrapped in foil which seams to stop it opening the doors whilst the keyless function is still operating. I’m trying to convince my kids that their cars are just as vulnerable and need to do the same. We use the Fantom tracking system on our van which is superb, we lent the van to a friend recently and watched it travel around France, pretty cool.

Sorry to hear this buddy, for future reference you can get a tracker with a sim card that connects to your
phone...if your vehicle moves it sends a text msg to your phone then you are able to shut the engine down
& kill the power whilst its on the move by texting it back.

Cheers Kev

I feel your pain - my 16 plate Disco 4 Commercial SE went Monday morning.

Police not interested to be honest. I should have fitted my security - can’t believe it’s that easy for them.

Unbelievable that in this day and age thieves can steal a high end vehicle so easily.
You'd think technology would have prevented this kind of thing, but it's actually made it easier than ever.

And even after over two years of keyless theft all that can be offered is a radio blocking bag for the remote control.
