could someone tell me if the sticky number plates (that some 4x4 and rally cars use) are illegal?

i kept knocking mine off last weekend and wanted to use a sticky one on the bonnet. the bloke in the shop warned me, it might be illegal. (even though they still keep selling them)

confused or what!

As long as its the right size, the letters are the right size and spaced correctly. IT isnt illegal.

It is most definatly illegal. Numberplates have to comply with the construction and use regulations regarding number size, shape, spacing and reflectance. They also have to carry the name and postcode of the number plate manufacturer.

Never heard of anyone being nicked for a sticky front one.

it is only new no plates that have to carry the postcode and name of the maker, so, as long as you use the proper reflective background and letters you will be ok,tell the bizzies you have had it ages, i hope you can find some as i asked in our local motorist shop for one to put on my trailer and they said they couldnt get them any more ;)

I was told may years ago, when I needed a plate for an old Morris Traveller that the only vehicle that you could legally use stick on plates for was an E Type Jag on account of there being no mountings for a real front plate when they were produced.
Don'y know how true it is now but you never know!!
