Hi there, I’ve just been to view a discovery 2 TD5 and when I got there it was all warmed up and drove fine, went into and out of gear easy. But when questioned about it being warm and wanting to see it cold the owner confessed that when cold the clutch sticks and you have to pump it 5-10 times but once warmed up it’s fine. Does anyone know what this might be? And more importantly is it an expensive fix? I did ask to wait till it cooled and try it but they owner said they wanted to get back home so that would not be an option. Usually I would walk away with out a doubt but the chassis and body and virtually everything else was so clean that it’s a difficult decision.

IMO the clutch has not much to do with temperature but the gearbox does...so if it's hard to put it in gear from cold can be gearbox related... though everything is fixable at the proper price

I didnt think about the gearbox itself. Just went on the comments about pumping the pedal.

Like said, it's unlikely to be the clutch if gears release when temperature goes up. Ask the owner when he last did a gearbox oil change and what oil he put in. The R380 gearbox is very particular about the oil and the wrong oil usually shows up on cold gear change, especially when shifting from 1st to 2nd.
