So my TD4 steering rack has developed a leak from inside the bellows. Is this repairable or is it a new rack and how hard a job is it. The Haynes manual makes it sound easy but i have learned from experience it isnt true in reality. Secondly has anyone used Wyns Power Steering leak for a temporary fix. Does it work like it says on the tin ?
Cheers in advance

The rack is relatively easy to change unless it's a V6 where access is severely limited.
PS stop leak might work but won't fix damaged seals. It just softens dried out seals, which helps them to work again.

Ok cheers
Access is pretty limited on a TD4 for everything in my book then again i do have a D1 200TDI as well which i can woerk under quite happily while its on its wheels and have been known to climb into the engine bay itself to refit the cylinder head.

Rack access on the TD4 is ok once you have removed the air filter housing. The job is pretty straight forward and there's no setting up of the tracking needed.
There are 4 bolts that secure the rack to the bulkhead. 2 Torx headed bolts securing the track rods to the rack. The fluid pipes need to be released which sometimes rust, causing removal issues. The only other fixing is the column clamp, inside the foot well.
Fitting the new rack is a reversal of removal but make sure that you set the rack in the same position as the rack you took off, or the steering wheel will be off centre.
