steering damper replacement

as it says above, just got under my 300 tdi for the first time, and have found that the sliding cover on the the damper is rotted out not all the way round. So i'm gonna replace it. Is there any pit falls that i need to know about when doing it or is it a nice easy straight forward job.
 
Well worth spraying Plus-Gas/Wd40 etc etc on the top nuts especially well before you try to undo them. The new shocks should come with new washers and nuts for the lower mounts, so just use an angle grinder to take the old ones off .. much, much easier!!

Sorry ... just realised it's the steering damper .. for some reason I thought it was the rear dampers ...
