Steering column short

2000 Disco II

I think I have a short in the steering column. It started when I began using the radio controls on the steering wheel. Now, the radio stops and starts, especially when turning. Lights, including ACE lights come on and off at random, traction lights too.

Any Ideas on where to look ? And I have heard that you can set off the air bag when screwing around in the steering column.

Any suggestions are appreciated.
