Hi all,
Just after a bit of advice / reassurance please. The main shaft that the drop arm comes off on my steering box seems to be slowly trying to exit out the bottom of the box! There is about an inch of smooth shaft before the splines start and the ball joint on the drop arm is being pushed into a funny angle. I'm a bit worried the shaft is going to come so far out it all falls apart completely and leave's me with no steering. I presume the main shaft shouldn't move up or down?

I won't. I'll try and grab one tomorrow. Typical, just as the TOR''s on the Northants BYWAYS (nearest to me) have ended and Whaddon this weekend!!

Would this be considered too much?

It's a 3 bolt PAS box so not really sure if it should look like this or not? Just looks to clean like it's just come out.

That looks about the normal amount to me. What is missing is the plastic dust shield that sits in that space. The ball joint on the steering rod does tent to move about as the steering is operated.
Just grab the steering arm and push, pull, lift in all directions testing for movement.
Out of interest. What engine do you have?

That is fantastic news!! You've made my day. Gave it a good wiggle on the floor and jacked up the other day and no play anywhere so things are looking up.
The engine is a 3.6L 6 cylinder VM motori engine. Big old boat lump
