Hi all, looking for some help here if possible. A few months ago I was getting a little wet patch around the drop arm of my steering box. (Disco 2003) It never really came to much until now. At the minute I'm having to refill the res every week or so. Its leaving an ugly patch outside the house and the neighbours and wife are starting to complain. I'm wondering how sucessful a seal kit is? Are there kits that are better quality than others? I know the best solution is to replace the whole box, trouble is just at present this is not a practical idea. Anyone done seals before or anyone any helpful info on changing them.........

Firstly, the D2 steering box is a PITA to get to; you have to remove battery and battery box (move fuse box too IIRC).

I have done seals on earlier RRC steering boxes and they have not been that succesful. Does depend on how long it has been leaking and if you go off road and any scoring of the main shaft will detroy seals pretty quickly.

Given the time taken to remove the steering box on a D2, I would suggest that a recon exchange box would be the most economic solution in the long term.

Adwest are by far the best place to get a replacement.
