hi

third question today.....anyway, ive got myself 5 steel wheels. Ill only use them for winter (snow and ice). i want cheap but fairly good ones. I was looking at Kingpins but ive read they are rubbish. any thoughts on what to get and should remoulds be considered?

I use Falken A/T's (185/15's) which are relatively cheap for a branded tyre. When I first got them they were £200 for 4 and last about 30 to 35,000 miles.

Find them really quite good off road yet not really any compromise on road.

I read somewhere not to get something thats too grippy as it stops the traction control been as effective. And oh my, driven right the TC does do the business!

Kumho make one of the best budget tyre out there which in various tests will give the top guys a good run (worth doing a google search on tyre tests).
If it were me though & your budget could stand it, I'd consider special winter mud/snow tyres.
If you want real budget tyres that aren't dangerous & perform ok then Nankang are not too bad, but aren't up to Kumhos standard.

does anyone else have a separate set of tyres they use for winter and off roading? im still trying to figure out after buying a reali cheap set of steel wheels whether to have a seperate set for winter and off roading or but a good set for my alloys :confused:

Got a set of 17" alloys, and a set of steels with 215/80r15 Kumho KL78 at's on for laning.

The wheel set up on the right is the one I use all year round. I stuck on Toyo ATs in 215/80/r15 on my refurbished black steels like the above and it is great all year round, and brilliant in mud or snow. A bit extra lift too which is always useful.
 
We have BFGoodrich ATs on the Camel and road tyres on the TD4. The TD4 has occasionally worn the ATs but the road tires were fine in the snow.

The BFG AT tyres are good on road as well as off. Lasted 80,000miles plus!!!!!
