aup folks, just brought some steel wheels off ebay,
will i need differunt nuts for the wheels?
an where can i get them from?
thanks
Nick

yes you will the wheel nuts to go with them, same scource - egay thats where i got mine from.

you can use the original alloy wheel nuts on them. I had alloy nuts on steel wheels on my disco for ages

why's that? at the end of the day they both have the same curved/dished end which is pressed into the wheel. The alloy ones just have more thread

no they don't.
Steel wheel nuts have a domed end which matches with a domed recess in the wheel. The matching domes act as a taper fit.
Alloy wheel nuts have a flat end (some have a captive washer) and the surface of the wheel is flat too. The fixing relies on the clamping pressure, hence the need for a longer thread. The holes in alloy wheels are slightly smaller too, so they're a closer fit to the stud.
You probably had the nuts on upside down.

eh:confused:
the alloy nuts definately had domed ends which went into the recess on the steel wheels, otherwise they would of self centred on the holes which is the whole point of the tapering is it not?

i was told by the guy i brought the wheels off that i could use the alloy nuts but they would stick out a bit, but as i was only a mile away from paddocks i gave them a visit,
an as soon as i walked in the door Bob asked me 'what ya broke now nick' cheeky bugger:rolleyes:
so think i'm in the 'keep paddocks afloat team' now, wish i had shares in that fookin company
