Hi

I have just bought an 02 plate Diesel Freelander for Limited Use on the farm.

Engine turns over strongly on the key but will not start. It will bump start every time on a slope and run smoothly but will not start on the key.
I have discounted the immobiliser as surely it would not bump start. New battery and alternator fitted

Any clues.

Thanks

Tom

I had this on a previous one and it was the low pressure pump. Once started it ran great - just the actual starting bit that was the problem. Can you hear the pump priming or anything? As said though, dont take my word for it and buy the part - I am not a mechanic haha

You need to make sure the low pressure fuel pumps are running. Both pumps need to run, or the ECU inhibits the engine from starting. However as you can pump start it, I'd be inclined to say the pressure regulator has a split or leaking O ring, or you have a leaking injector, which is preventing the rail pressure from building under the slow (comparatively) cranking speed.
