Hi all, having problems removing lower bolt on starter motor on 2002 1.8 freelander 1. Is it removed from top or underneath or through wheel arch.

On the td4 you have to take the battery holder of I do not know if it is the same I can not find my book but I am sure you can get to the bolts from the front

Going by the last 4 posts it appears you're not necessarily to tech savy, so this might not be for you, but the following link shows you how to download the Rave Workshop Manual for Freelander...

Make sure you download the later manual for the 1.8/TD4 cars.

I've never taken the starter off a 1.8, but the Rave manual will give step-by-step instructions.

1. Disconnect battery earth lead.
2. Remove air cleaner assembly.
3. Disconnect Lucar connector from starter motor.
4. Remove nut and disconnect battery lead from
starter solenoid.
5. Remove lower nut and bolt securing starter
motor.
6. Remove bolt securing steady bar to engine LH
mounting.
7. Remove upper nut and bolt securing starter
motor.
8. Remove engine steady bar.
9. Remove starter motor.
