am going down to stay in st ives between xmas and new year, just wondering if anyone local to the area would be so kind to take us out for a bit? or can anyone recommend any pay and play sites locally? not had much experience of off roading, but know and am confident of the basics!

Take it you mean the st ives in cornwall ??? If you are then theres a pay and play site near Truro called 'Baldhu' do a quick search and something should turn up.

Not a million miles away from the herts laners ;-)
Dont know if there is anything arranged yet but most get out every weekend.
