Hi everybody. I'm new here and have a question! I have an 06 Range Rover vogue which has been problem free since I've owned it. Now I have a problem and wondered if any of you guys could help me out? The problem is the srs airbag light is on, here's how my problem panned out. Firstly in November last year was driving it with no problems then got out went to the shop and got back in the key wouldn't turn in the ignition wouldn't move nothing. Phoned a few people who are clued up but all give me different answers, so I phoned my local garage and he said sounds like a flat battery. He came up with a jump starter and it started first turn of the key. No problems there. Second time was in April. I was at a car boot sale and was there for a while browsing around and the kids wanted to sit in the car so I let them, but then when I came back to car put the key in ignition and the car turned over but not enough to start it, so I found somebody with some jump leads and got it going after a couple of cranks. I noticed that the red srs airbag thing had come on but didn't really take much notice and thought I'll get it reset when I get a service in the next couple of weeks, I have now had it serviced and asked him to turn the srs light off which he did but came straight back on. He then did diagnostics which were all clear apart from the srs thing which said something about low voltage. The car starts and drives fine but is not used everyday probably 3-4 times per week. Can anybody shed any light on what might be the problem? Kind regards.

I'd have thought that replacing the battery would be the first thing to knock off the list. It's been flat twice, so will be down on capacity.

Hi thanks for the reply, I took my car to kwik fit for a free battery and alternator check and they are both fine. I was just going to replace the battery but thought I would try that first, the battery came up as 84% and the alternator was running correctly too. Any more suggestions would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

Stab in the dark here. If the diagnostic is saying something about low voltage in relation to the srs, then maybe it's something as simple as a dodgy supply to the unit. Might be corroded connection terminals or a short caused by chafing somewhere. It might be causing your battery drain too.

Hi I get where your coming from, but my problem only started after the second jump start. It ran perfect up until then, so from what I've read on this forum it's possibly down to not letting it power down properly before jump starting it. Tomorrow I'm going to disconnect the battery for a bit and then re-connect it and put a wire to the neg and pos while disconnected leave it for 10 mins and re-Connect back up. Thanks for the info, will let you know how I get on. Cheers.

hi

hope u don't mind me asking, how many airbags have u got and where are they located plse

ref the low voltage , do u know if it may have said above or below threshold plse , there should have been a fault arrow code with the diagnostic

do all of ur controls work fine on the steering wheel

reason i ask is i spent months tracking a fault with my srs airbag system that consisted of 8 x airbags and understand they can sometimes be difficult to pin down

as ur fault came back straight away there must still be a hard fault going back to the srs ecu and won't clear until the error has been resolved

just wonder with the experienced i gained resolving mine if i can try and share any info that may help u

have u got a code reader by any chance , as with these faults u really need one to pin it down after trying the basics

thks

Hi mate, not sure how many airbags it has? It's a 56 plate vogue 3.0D I've checked the fuse for the airbag light and that's fine I've had the battery and alternator checked and they're both fine, I don't have a code reader, it was done at the garage where it was serviced. So not sure about the arrow! I've checked the yellow plugs under the seats passenger and driver and the is light still on? I'm at a loss as to what it could be. Cheers.

hi

plse ignore the word arrow , don't know how that got in there unless autocorrect added it , lol

as you've done the basics of checking the fuses, connectors under the seats u have the following option

1/ post this in the range rover section
2/ see if a local LZ member has a diagnostic machine
3/ find a local garage to get the codes read / or a airbag specialist company
4/ buy urself a diagnostic machine , it will pay for itself very quickly and is invaluable

think the first port of call would be to ask on the range rover section as someone may know of a particular fault that could be tried , ie wire location etc

these vehicles are complicated and really need a diagnostic to steer u in the right direction and need those codes

Hi cheers, have posted it in the RR section, new here so didn't spot that bit. Can you recommend a code reader for my RR? Thanks.

the forum is full of different sections , lol

i personally bought a iid built by gap

https://www.gap-diagnostic.com/products/iidtool/

there aftersales service is second to none, they are based in canada

alas they cost around £400 but is an extremely comprehensive diagnostics

but on the range rover section they may recommend a cheaper alternative
