Had a 2003 Freelander TD4 for about 3 months now. Last week SRS warning light came on and has stayed on since then. Just had an auto electrician check for fault codes etc. None recorded. Any ideas? Many thanks. Mal.

Check the connections to the seatbelt pretensioners under the seats. Easiest way is to just unplug and replug them. Do this with the ignition off. Should be the only connector under the seats, unless you have heated seats, in which case, not knowing which one was which, you won't do any harm by unpluggin and replugging both

this worked for me

the srs warning should go out after bout 5sec [in wich time it checks for faults] it has its own circuit , and is deemed as an explosive device, the main sensors are under the tunnel on the gaylander, and in the event of a forcible front impact, it sends iminant signal to its own ecu ,if on knowing this is real [rapid decline int speed from ems] its sis fire the bleedin air bags un pull up all seat belt tensioners, this operation will take bout 0.4s or 400ms pending on type. . . . . .so not tryin to be clever but , needs to be checked out by someone who really understands it and can simulate that it will work when required. . . . . .get it

thanks for the advice regarding pretensioners. Tried it and thought I had won but light came back on again a few seconds after.

hi once the freelander has an srs fault it will stay in the system and normally they dont clear without testbook, on saying that if no faults are listed next port of call to check is battery, has it gone flat lately enough to cut power to the srs dcu, you need to check amps on battery not voltage and the other way you may be able to clear the fault if there are no logged faults is to disconect battery both sides leave at least 2o mins for srs dcu to power down and then touch both sides of battery terminals to clear any risidule power from ecu's then reconect battery and see if light stays out the other way which sometimes work is turn the ignition on and off fast about 3 times if the light stays on it must have a fault, either pretensioners or the common 1 is open or short circuit to srs warning light which is a new ecu any way cheers tiga

On a couple of my previous cars (not LRs) I have had problems with under seat connectors making the airbag lights come on. Disconnecting and reconnecting the connectors helped for a while but eventually I cut out the connectors and replaced them with terminal blocks. On one of the cars I needed a dealer to reset the circuit but the removal of the connectors stopped the lights coming on.

Cheers

had it on mine, forgot to reconnect the cable after fitting the multichanger. SRS light stayed on. I sussed what it was and reconnected it, after two ignition on/off cycles it cleared.

Was only a suggestion of something a layman (no disrespect intended) could easily check before going the time and expense of finding someone with diagnostics, and then looking a tit 'cos it was something simple

Well thats a new approach cutting off the terminal blocks and rejoining them through another connector, is it only me that can see the problems that could cause, there is a fault there as otherwise the light would not be on maybe your electrian cant retreive the faults that he needed to also most srs conections now are made of gold to reduce resistance levels at the connector, also some srs components can have residule voltage in them to still be set off after 20 mins, also a 9 volt battery in a multi meter can set off an srs component so be affraid, most srs cables and connectors are yellow in colour and wires are twisted.

Did you remove the air-bag panel and check if the connector behind it was in place, they come out real easy with only two pins holding them.

As the others said disconnect battery for about 10-15 mins to let capacitor discharge before disconnecting any wires.
