Hi all, i have a disco 200 series and the driver side front brake has started squealing in a very annoying fashion. I have had the pads checked and they are fine + they coated them in copper grease as they were a bit dry but still it squeals. Has anyone else experienced this?

Cheers

I have a 97 Disco & my brakes were also squealing from the right front. My pads were fine but my rotors were under sized. As a matter of fact, all my rotors were under sized. I replaced them all with premium rotors & my squealing went away.

I have a 93 disco and the front right squeaks on mine too. I saw some spray you can get, costs about $14 (Australian) Thought I might give it a go. My Dad used to put copperslip on his pads whenever he did the breaks on his car.

What/Where are the rotors? Can't be ar$ed looking in the manual at the moment. Wondering why that would fix the squeaky pads.

Hi Cnurse Rotors are american for Brake Disc's.

Squeeky pads can also be from contaminates on the pad linings or heat (especially in cheap pads/disc's (Rotors) The only real cure will be to change pads or disc's or both (Expensive)

I drive my rangie on hand controls, my brakes started to squeel because of heat from the pressure.

Try taking the pads out and seeing if there is any kind of contaminate on them or check the disc's (Rotors) for contamination or blue lines (Heat)

Hope this is some help

Heaps of useful info their Charlotte. Many thanks. I do remember my old man running a file over the backs of pads when he refit them. Maybe that was to help clean off any surface stuff that might buildup.

my finance's Rav 4 (horrible things!!) brakes started sqeaking - checked the pads and they were fine. the disc on the other hand had a small 'groove' running around it's surface - re-honed (NZ$60) and squeak gone!!

...they can pick up small stones etc and etch grooves into your discs and they start squeking. (bring back drum brakes!!!)
