You've seen them advertised, ebay etc. I'm talking about the aluminium spacers you pop under your springs to lift your ride height from anyway between 1 inch and 2 inch. Well at £100 i decided to make my own, a few hours at lunch on the lathe and voila!! the backs went on without to much grief but the fronts, oh my!! it seems the front axle just won't drop down enough to get the whole lot in, to be honest the spring on its own is an effort, am i doing something wrong? on the back i removed the levelling unit and that made a huge difference but on the front i'm a little lost, does something need removing??!! advice............anyone...................guys?

so what are we saying here, i need someone to stand on the axles and i should be able to squeeze in the spacers? is it just the radius arm bushes needing some persuasion?

get yourself some coil spring compressors... im going to fit my 2" kit next weekend :) i got some off my old man, he fitted a 1.5" lift kit to his escort when he used to rally :D

hopefully this should work.

let me know how you get on and what i should be doing so i dont spend all 48hrs off my weekend shouting at the girlfriend because its not going right!

also, did you drill/cnc a bigger hole in the centre of the front spacer to allow lateral movement of the damper? i hear that those cnc alloy ones are ****e, because they havent been thought through.

the hole in the front spacer was made as big as the hole at the centre of the spring cups around 2 inch, it may of been a guess but it felt educated at the time!! i think your right with the spring compressors, once its all in place the weight of the vehicle will persuade any stubborn rubber bush to concede (i hope). The rears worked really well, only thing to be said is because of the way the axle pivots the spring has a slight arch in it but other than that just had to ditch the levelling unit

I should add with the fronts the spring cup has a piece of plate fitted on top of it with the right size to act as the new bottom bush mount on the damper, because with all the will in the world the damper won't stretch that far!!
