Hi folks, I have just bought an A bar that came with spots fitted, I want to wire these into my main beam cicuit can anyone help with diagrams and a list of the parts I might need , relays ect....

Also I am looking to fit a roof ariel the wee black short kind, anybody have one for sale or direct me to a site, I tried ebay but the only short one was no good for landy roof.

I have fitted some spots to my A bar and have to do the wiring aswell. This will need some checking (I havent actually done it yet) but I think you need a 30Amp fuse, a 4 pin relay and a switch if you want to be able to isolate the spots. you need a wire from the battery which connects to the fuse and then on the relay (connector 30). then a wire with a switch on to the main beam wire behind the dash (might be blue and white but check!) which connects to the relay (connector 85). Then you need wire to the spots from the relay (connector 87). the last connector pin on the relay should be an Earth wire.

My relays are DC12V 30Amp (http://www.carstereoexpo.com/rl5stre30dc.html) as shown on this website. However I didn't buy from there, i got them from my Dad's toolbox!

Hope this is some help, can anyone confirm the wiring? It is what i am going to try on mine!

Andy

Thanks for that Andy, thats generally what Ive read about wiring them up. I dont want to isolate the spots on the A bar but I also intend to get a light bar and spots for the roof and will isolate these, if the landy doesnt burn up first.

I managed to get a hold of a lucas wiring code sheet which gives all the wiring colours for the landy so this should help.
many thanks

The full light bar set tempts me but on the whole I would rather buy some new seats first. i want the really nice leather bucket ish seats from Exmoor Trim. They look so nice. Have you got the lights wired up yet? I need to do mine still so any advice on what colour the wires behind the dash are would be great!

Andy

I have not connected the lamps as yet, but when I do I think I will splice into the head lamp wiring at the back of the h/lamps thus saving any alteration to the dash wiring, I think this should work, will post when done.

On the subject of what wire does what ,I have a lucas wiring sheet somewhere that gives all the correct colour codes, if you give me an email address I will look it out and scan a copy for you..

By the way if thats your landy in the pic with the boat it looks great, esp at work pulling the boat out, .

Dont take the headlamp wiring use the main beam but do it via a relay otherwise there is a good chance it will burn out your stalk switch!!!

cheers for that graham,

As I said I was thinking of spicing into the wiring behind headlight but I will use a relay, will this be ok or are you saying that I cant use the wiring at the headlight?.

Another issue will be the prospect of a light bar at some time, are these normaly isolated with a switch setup, or can these also , along with the A bar spots be linked into the mainbeam setup via a relay ect...

cheers

Hi folks,

I bought an Light Bar for my Defender a few months ago, only wired it at the weekend.

I have mine wired separatley. I drilled into the roof, and came in via rubber grommets to ensure that it was water tight.

Thanks rich, your light bar looks cool. You dont say how you went about the wiring of your lights, are they linked into your landys headlight circuit in any way?. I have seen the type of light bar you have for sale on ebay I want the same bar with round spots but have yet to see a round spot light example, was there any particular reason you went for the square spots?

Slightly of the subject but could you tell me what colour your landy is, I relise its green but is this your paint work or army green? I also intend to change from a metalic green to the same colour as your landy, so if you have a colour code, or some more pics I could view,
cheers

Hey Banzia,

Cheers, I wired my Lights Separatley to the headlights, using heavy wire and a fused conection. I also have another battery running in parallel for all the modifications that I hope to add. Whether my alternator will be able to keep up is another question.

As for the paint I have a tin of re-paint for her somewhere. I will get it out today and find the paint code. I will also get a pic up to show you in better detail.
