Being new to the landrover world I apologise if this question has come up before, but here goes .......

I've just purchased a series III 109 in need of a small amount of TLC. When I drove it back from the guy I purchsed it from the speedo seemed to be a bit tempremental (working, dance around abit, stop working altogether !). I have replaced the speedo cable but still have the same problem. The needle will read fine then start to dance around then it will read 0mph. My instinct is telling me the speedo is knackered as the miles don't seem to be incrementing either. Any help or advice appreaciated.

Try a drill with a small slot screwdriver attachment in the back of the speedo aperature for the cable. If it's consistent under "drive" from the drill then you'll know that yer speedo's ok and it's the worm drive in the box.

Regards WP.

its usually a prob at the gearbox end. speedos rarely give any problems.

This happened to me. Turned out that whoever had last removed the instrument panel had tugged hard enough to partially disconnect the speedo cable. It doesn't have a lot of slack! Should just clip back into place. Worth a try anyway?

Thanks guys. I'll give the drill test a try. Already replaced the speedo cable so I'm fairly sure that that is in place correctly.
