finished it today, I made up some hinges from a bit of ally c section I found and fitted a spreader plate behind the bottom hinge to stop the body flexing, the carrier is secured through the tailgate which ive welded a sleeve into to stop the frame crushuing with a 12mm pin and welded a 12mm nut into the carrier to screw it into . I'm really happy with how it looks and works and think it looks beter than some of the mass produced ones ive seen.

just a thought , would it make sense to mount the tailboard on the spare wheel carrier so they both hinged sideways together..

I thought about doing that but wanted to keep my drop down tail gate ,plus if i need to carry anything long i can pull out the hinge pins and remove the carrier completely leaving the tailgate in place.
