Hello there boys and girls. My name is Daryl and I have a hankering to get myself a Defender 90, so will be taking in any and all information you give me, and get confused when someone says one thing and someone else says the total opposite!

As you can probably tell from my avy, I own a classic Mini and I come from Basingstoke. The Mini, for anyone interested, is a mostly standard 1979 998 with a stage 1 kit and death-defying drums all round! I like to fix it myself when I can so have almost the entire tool section of Halfords with me at all times. And an RAC card just in case!

Nice to meet you all!

Hello!

I was lurking these forums a month or two ago, reading up on green laning and the rules and regs and current places we can all go to, and saw your name mentioned as the go-to guy for this area. Do you all have a local meet-up area that my Mini can get to, such as a pub?

Also I've seen a filthy lifted Disco in B. Hill not that far from ASDA. Not yours, is it?

not mine - but I am in that general area.

no pub meet,*( too busy repairing the bloody thing)
but yu are welcome to come along on our next run.

Haha yeah, know that feeling.

When's your next run then? I would like to tag along. I've been watching a shedload of green laning and off roading videos on YouTube. Longing for the day I can enjoy all that.

Well please keep me posted if you do. :)

What I'd really like to do when the bad weather hits us, especially if it's anything like last year, is help people out. Pulling people through floods, up hills, even joining the 4x4 response group when I've got a bit of 4x4 experience under my belt. Nothing but the utmost respect for people who do that without desiring cash or incentives in exchange; just out of pure goodwill to strangers.

I joined in 2014, huh? Didn’t take me long to get a Landy, then!

I picked up a 2003 Defender 90 from Leeds yesterday. Avg. 50mph the whole way down - partly to conserve fuel and partly to conserve my ears.

From what I can tell, the car is fairly standard. A Landy friend of mine thinks I may have old Disco wheels on, and it has a fairly modern head unit. That’s as far as I can make out as modifications go.

I went for a little drive earlier. Some of you Basingstoke folk will recognise the spot in the photos!

I went to see Challenger 4x4. Keith seems like a really nice guy. I think I’ll use his services for any work I can’t do/don’t feel like doing.

Hope to see some of you around!

Hi and welcome!

Nice Landy! Looks very tidy. Make sure you invest in some decent security measures too. Defenders are popular with thieves sadly.

I used to live near Basingstoke too BTW.

Cheers!

It has some security installed already but I do have more security plans on the horizon. I've seen way too many notices of stolen Defenders for me to ignore it.

Early plans are to get Challenge 4x4 to give it a health check and fix any issues that come up from it. Then maybe some off-road training for myself, a snorkel, maybe fit some different tyres & wheels, get some recovery equipment and join the local 4x4 Response group and a Landy club, with some P&P days mixed in to get some more experience.
