I found a nice Defender but I'm not sure about it.

It's P reg, for 6k. Had its engine replaced in May. (newer one has 120k on the clock)

As you can see it has a soft top. Ideal for weather like this. Do you know if it would have been factory fit or is it likely to have had its roof cut off at some point?

Not sure if I should just keep looking for a standard 90.

Can't see any picture.

You don't cut anything off to change from hard-top to soft-top, it is all nuts & bolts so as long as they have used the correct parts no reason why it shouldn't be ok.
Not certain if the UK market was offered soft-tops at that time, there were specials but I seem to recall that we didn't get the normal one although I might be incorrect. Of course the MOD had them all the time as well as many overseas markets, if not a standard offering they might have been available as a special order here.

Can see it now.

£6K sounds a little overpriced. Lots of nasty chequer-plate (covering what?) and all that rust on the door-hinges, is the bulkhead sound?
A description of all the usual's would help with a decision but it has obviously covered a decent milage (replacement engine has done 120K miles!) so what is the running gear like?
