Disco 1 Snorkel question

Hi guys i hope some-one can clear this up for me as its been raised a few times at work as to whether or not mine was fitted as standard or an optional extra?
I have it personally on good authority (a private Landy mech who deals with nothing but landies) that some of them came out of the Coventry factory with it as a standard fitting (apparently this he witnessed a few leaving the factory doors with this fitted), on the other hand i have an ex insurance broker who said this was total bollocks and it was never a standard fitting only an after market modification.
Personally i have done a quick inspection of my own and really i cant tell the difference other than if it was an aftermarket mod it would more than likely have a hacked and grinded hole in the passengers side or drivers side front wing as opposed to a cleaner press cut or drill cut (not sure on this?) hole.

Can some one help out on this issue.

They were never a standard fitment in the UK, every D1 would have one if it was.
So it was a factory fit option (as opposed to dealer fit) when the purchaser request a raised air intake to be fitted. Also it’s possible, if D1s were seen leaving the factory in bulk they were for other markets abroad or maybe some UK utilities companies.
