hi everybody

New to the forum and have loads of questions that needs answering.
I have been given a RRC01 and want to prep it for some serious offroad/jungle/beach fun.
I am currently living in Guatemala, so please bear that in mind when giving me some advice as getting hold of spares etc is really hard.

First thing i want to do is prep the vehicle for wading etc, so i want to fit 1 or 2 snorkels.

I have a RRC which has twin carbs, so do i need to fit 2 snorkels?
Also to make it more difficult for myself, i intend to make the snorkels myself, so if anybody has photos/links on finished snorkels that would be fantastic.

i think i can can an airbox from a local garage but if i cant, does the snorkel need to be filtered, if so how would i do that?

Many thanks in advance

Not a definative answer, but I`d think you`d need to keep the carbs totally enclosed. On a fuel injection petrol or diesel I think you`ve only the air intake to worry about, but
carbs are going to have the float bowls exposed to atmosphere aren`t they?

the old tin carb airbox has a rubber "one way" drain on it amoun many other little holes, I am not sure after 30 years in Guatemala it will be "one way" anymore or if it is the at will be in not out :D

I would go for some good qulity tubing from each carb or seal up the old airbox well!

Thanks for the replies Gents.
I have included a photo of the set up i already have, hopefully this will answer a few questions that you have to answer my question.

it looks very clean , I have seen one with the box fitted and sealed up and theone hose out, that would be best as you keep your air filters.(well not yours but the one the orginal style airbox takes.

the way is to remove the "telephones" and using a nice big hose clip and hose fit it over the end of the carb. you wont have any filter then though so I would fit this just before each time you wade.

not sure any carb will like complete submersion for a long time though as water will get into the fuel overflow???

not sure how you would enclose both carbs completly and maintain a good seal a on a permanent basis. might be easier with a single carb. there might be kits but being where you are it might make it hard to source.

Whats it like over there anyway?

Hi

You will need a filter. Some go on top of the snorkel, but they are not very good. One of those Donaldson filters is the best. If you think about the amount of air that a V8 needs to breath, I would say 2 snorkels.

I was thinking the 2 snorkels option would be the best.
However I take it I need filters onto of either snorkel?
If so do you think I can use the filters I already have or I will have to buy purpose built filters?

Personally I think those you have is fine for onroad use, but in real dusty conditions you need a decent filter. Have a look at some agricultural products. They are designed to take it. They will also be able to supply a airbox.
