Gents,

I have a strange SLS issue that manifested itself a few days back with my 04 D2 TD5 (94k miles). Whilst driving the SLS amber light will come on and it will drop onto the bump stops. It will also trigger the bong but not always like today when it did it coming down the motorway at 60mph!

To get mobile I use the Nanocom SLS calibration function to reinflate the bags to a reasonable height and then the ORM switch to raise and drop back to normal ride height. It will then drive ok until it does it again which is currently anywhere between 5 and 25 miles.

What I have checked so far....
  • No faults stored in SLABS even when the SLS amber light has been on prior to connecting Nanocom
  • New height sensor/plugs fitted several months back (inputs reading ok with Nanocom)
  • All valves can be heard when operated with Nanocom although the Exhaust is quieter than the left/right
  • Resistance readings for all 3 valves is 15ohms (taken directly on the coil pins)
  • Compressor works fine, inflates bags with no issues but physically checked for water ingress/poor connections electrical/air and I cannot fault it
  • No airleaks - bags stay inflated but have also checked with soapy water along with the various pipe unions (Conti bags so have been replaced at some point)
  • Checked the SLABS for water ingress but it is bone dry - looks new
At a bit of a loss at the moment, hence seeking any advice/experience of a similar issue?

Just found this taped up in the loom below the SLABS. .

I am going to fully remove it, as it is the next logical step I can think of before going down the component swap out route..

HI, as long as you've seen the amber light but no faults logged it can be and ECU fault but first suspect is a bag regardless of what brand it is... the simple way to rule out a management isssue is to inflate them as the vehicle to be at level then set the suspension to coils... if it drops that way too it's 100% a leak which can happen only at some certain moments.... i have no ideea what that thing in the picture can be but i doubt it has anything to do with your problem

That's some great advice, especially setting to coils - many thanks!

The device in the image appears to be for lowering the rear suspension for towing. I cannot find the exact one on the WWW, but there was something similar shown on one on the various LR forums. I have removed it now and reconnected one of the wires that had been cut. Hopefully over the next few days I will know one way or another.

In regards to the air leak, then my thinking was that it appears to drop evenly onto the bump stops in a controlled way - exactly like the handbook describes for the SLS remote. I do not read anywhere that it is blocked when a road speed is present hence the hope that the aftermarket device is suspect A. Failing that then I will switch to coils in the SLABS and see what happens.

Ok, 150+ trouble-free miles since I removed the device in the attached image.

Fingers crossed it is fixed, but time and more miles will tell for sure...
