Can anyone suggest some causes for me to work backwards through? I'm trying to think what would cause slow cranking.

I've recently taken apart the starter to check the bushings before refitting it. I've got a new battery that shows good amps (not done a load test). Ive also removed the battery and starter earth, cleaned them up and refitted.

Earth problems are usually a clicking noise?
Fuses on the dash are fine.

86 defender 110 2.5 NA

Thanks

Yeh new issue. It actually turned over plenty fast when I first put it all back together for a minute or two

Why do you need to crank over for a minute or two?
A 2.5 NA should start on the first few compressions in normal British temperatures.
Personally, I would use a bigger battery as well.

Starter. I changed battery, etc. but in the end when I changed the starter for a new one it started as someone said above, almost immediately every time, hot or cold.

That's annoying, I'll have to use that as a leisure battery I guess.
I'll change the engine oil and order a new starter + battery.
