side light problem

I have a problem with my 53 plate td4 . the brake lights work fine until I turn the lights on .then the drivers side light goes off when the brake is applied . I have checked the bulbs they are fine also checked weather if I have good earths in the bulb holders .can any one shed any light on this problem . ps it has a tow bar fitted
