Anyone know if replacing the side window in the boot is a job that can be done at home - ie remove one from a parts car without breaking it and installing in a car that's got a broken window.

Bugger. Something tells me that it will be very expensive over here and make getting this doer-upper not so attractive.
On the council estate I work on, a black bin liner and some gaffer tape is the acceptable practice. This would obviously enhance the look of the Freelander, and give the structural support required.
I could pop down to Poundland and grab a roll of bags for you and ship them over. I'm sure owning a Landover you have gaffer tape;)

Cheers mate, just make sure its the bags with the safety logo printed on it or else it'll fail the WOF :)

Could you not get the offending window shipped out GG. The actual glass isn't that expensive or heavy. So I would think shipping would be reasonable. I wouldn't discount it as a doer-upper just yet. You need to get the glass type off another window, but it's probably just the standard Sundym type.
It really isn't that expensive, even from LR. Most UK sellers can supply the rear glass for around £50, even LR sell it for under £100. So if you find a UK supplier doing it for £50, will it cost another £50 to ship? I doubt it. ;)

I suppose its not that expensive (from LRDirect)....

Items total NZ$ 83.62
Shipping NZ$ 45.61
Total For Your Order NZ$ 129.23

Plus the bonding agent which is about £12 from Amazon. So say it's NZ $150 for everything. Is that actually that expensive by comparison to the full value of the Freelander over there?

This is the car....

You'll notice there appears to be 2 different sets of pictures; the first lot its all nice and shiny, the 2nd lot its filthy and got the broken window.

The first lot of pics are from when it was first listed. I forget how much it was listed at, but it was Kiwi pricing so probably about $8K (£4K) or more. @Tony Reeves and me discussed the car pointing out the back door handle being held on with gaffer tape ( @Skinny Mike :) ) mismatch of tyres and various other bits and pieces making this a rather suspect car.

Roll on a few months and its back listed in the "Damaged Car" section in this state. Someone's done stuff to it, cos the back door handle looks to have been "fixed", but the transmission is now f**ked and it generally looks like the sort of car we thought it would be!

So there's a lot of cash to be spent on this to get it into a decent car.

They're also listing this 2.5....

Looks nice and clean externally, but not great inside, not an HSE spec either, with an overheating, "rattly/noisey" engine with suspected HGF - yours for $8.5K !!!
