Should I go with a lift kit or heavy duty springs?

Poor percy has very tired suspension and is in dire need of a new set of of springs, shocks and bushes. He will be getting poly-bushes, regardless of which set-up we go with.

Last weekend we competed in our club RTV trials and found that we were scraping the chassis on just about every bump and divot!!! On a couple of sections we incurred penalties because we grounded out and couldn't continue. My question though is this:

What are the on-road handling implications of using a 1.5-2inch lift kit or a set of standard height heavy duty springs, and will it make enough of a difference to performance to consider not using these, as percy is my daily transport as well as my weekend play pal?!?

All input gratefully recieved, especially from anyone who has carried out either mod and has on and off road driving experience there-of!!!

Thanks,

Chris

Helllo Chris,

Just Fitted A 1 Inch Lift Kit From Bearmachs, Springs + Gas Shocks.

The Truck Is Looking Great And Looks A Lot Higher Than I Expected,
I Would Highly Recommend +1.

I Didn't Just Dive In And Buy It, Done A Lot Of Asking At All The Major Shows End Of Last Year, Cut A Long Story Short , Vitually Everyone-
Traders And People Recommended + 1 , Whichever Make Of Kit You Buy.
Only A Few People Said+ 2, Most Were Of The Opinion That + 2 Slightly More Unstable And We Did Look At Some In Billing/ Peterborough Shows, I Must Admit The + 2 Looked Two High From My Personal Point Of View.

Thanks Robert,

I've gone with Monroe shocks and 1.5" HD springs from Britpart. These will go together with the polybush kit. Hope to get it all fitted soon (next weekend, weather permitting) so that I can get out without repeatedly beating my cross-member anymore!!!

Thanks for the advice,

Chris

hi i have used scorpion racing springs and delphi shockers for a "2 lift and the handling is superp they are uprated springs by%20 stiffer i can only say for road handling they are fantastic check out there web site there are a lot of happy people who seem to purchase them regards colin:)

Chris, you can have a look at the Land Rover heavy duty coils and fit something like Monroe shocks. Otherwise a full Old Man Emu and TJM suspension. On my Defender I have the TJM suspension and is very happy with it.
