Looking for some advice please. My insurance with Heritage is due for renewal currently agreed value £3,600 (agreed a few years ago now).
I was told by a local garage that the value of Series III's has gone up quite a bit and I was surprised by some of the prices being asked on Autotrader. Would appreciate any thoughts on the sort of value I should be looking for please (no plans to sell) and any recommendations on Insurers, Thanks, John
details of vehicle :-
1972 tax exempt 88 inch 2.25 petrol
All works professionally done and documented - replacement Richards Galv Chassis, rebuilt and galvanised bulkhead,Fairy overdrive, Exmoor Trim canvas hood and sticks, Exmoor trim front bench seats, dented body panels replaced doors replaced and two pack respray, spare wheel carrier fitted in rear compartment, replacement wheels and tyres. A few nicks in paintwork since done but nothing major. Light use and low annual mileage.

Hi,

If you do a search, there are a few on here that only last week were discussing how their 90's etc were agreed value for 10K plus.

Maybe worth having a look for that and maybe asking how they proved its value, as to replace yours like for like is going to cost more than the value you currently have.

Cheers

Your landy is worth more than the previous agreed value. With that amount of work and looks well maintained I'd be at around £5k at least.

Mine's a very similar spec to yours....before I had her resprayed the agreed valuation that I had with Lancaster and then Adrian Flux were both 12K... both required photos and evidence of work done, but both very reasonable (<£100 per year on a limited mileage cover)

Wow! thanks for that. I was surprised at some of the prices being asked and thought it might be unrealistic. Documentation and photos no problem. I'm paying about the same for my Insurance at the moment on limited mileage. Would feel a bit sick if something happened and I only got a fraction of what it is worth. I saw one on Autotrader which was similar and they were asking about £12,000 for it. John

Yes, I've seen a few series 3's for 10k+ lately but that doesn't mean people are actually paying that much. You can easily spend £20k on restoring a landy but it will never sell for that. Yours does look nice though John.

I'd fully agree that your "value" is very low - very very low IMHO. And I'd also agree that you'd need to be well over £10K to replace a vehicle as nice as yours if the worst happens...

The other point is that, at the moment, with a value of £3600, £1800's "worth" of damage has converted your series into a write off - I'm sure you see the problems of this amount being so low at current labour rates etc.

I'd be keeping a spreadsheet of all the costs, and making damn sure the totals spent are covered by the policy.

I do appreciate this is a royal PITA, but insurance companies are not philanthropists, and they will only be looking to get out of paying in any way possible.:mad::mad:

I know Col, I spent near enough that amount when I had my Defender restored some years ago. Never expect to get back what you paid out.
Having said that if the Series III is worth near what some people think, I would probably make back most of what I've spent on it, not that I would sell it. John

you could ship that to the USA and have enough to buy a Puma

Agree with this..... I have a detailed spreadsheet of every nut and bolt that I've purchased for Gerty, along with every single receipt - As Disco1BFG says a real pain in the arse, but worth it if you want to get a realistic agreed valuation. Is anybody else going to pay the agreed valuation if you were to sell your landy "No", but if yours needed to be replaced how much would you have to spend to get it up to the same spec and condition "lots more than it's worth" ...that's effectively what you're paying for with the Agreed Valuation and to do it generally only adds about a tenner to the premiums, if anything at all :)

Im in trouble. Henry is priceless................

Seriously though I have spent the last two years adding things to it and havnt a clue what its worth. I think its insured for 1100 quid at the moment. o_O

Thanks for all the advice. Just an up-date. I have revised my agreed value through Heritage (Norton insurance) subject to providing recent photos - looking at an agreed value of £12,000 which would increase my premium by £15 a year which I think is money well spent.
If I have any problems or quibbles I will be looking at alternative providers and an Independent Valuation if necessary. I will also be following the advice to draw up a full list of what I have spent on it. Thanks again all. John

I'm with Heritage and have an agreed valuation. One of my Land Rovers was stolen & burnt out last year and the insurance was sorted really quickly and painlessly, would recommend them.
That's reassuring. Thanks. Many Years ago I had an Opel Manta GTE special edition from new, last year of manufacture, which was stolen and burnt out. I loved that car. Sickening feeling. John
