hi

doing a off road spec defender at the moment, decided to go with series type doors for simplicity, but they are seeming to be the opposite of this.

bought from sp land rover spares as you may know they are a series door replica , previously the old standard spec doors fitted ok, with a little push to close.
now i just can't seem to get enough adjustment for the doors to fit properly without the top hitting the truck cab

heres some pictures to help as you can see the door top isn't on yet and it is already running out, i have added new hinges too today as my old ones were a bit loose but this hasn't helped either.
I'm considering going back to defender doors due to the issues i am having.

Replaced the door seals at the same time? I've got sp doors on mine and only trouble was with door lock alignment.

The new hinges might be the issue, without the slack the door is held in a slightly different position. That and tolerances on orginal, let alone replacement kit isn't always what it could be.

Most of the adjustment is at the bulkhead bolts on the hinges so check the captive nuts aren't seized and are free to move.

Failing that a jack under the door before pinching everything up can work wonders :)

Looking at the photos the door seems to be pretty tight each side at the top, but normal gap each side at the bottom. If that is so then as far as I can see either the tub/hardtop has moved (unlikely unless its been packed up more at the rear off the chassis supports) or the bulkhead has moved out of alignment at the top, or my favourite, the replacement door has been made out of true - square, could it be wider at the top?. Have a good furtle around with a tape measure and a large square (perhaps the corner off-cut off a piece of plywood or similar)

i have checked on the new door bottom and it is square, i did do 2x chassis outriggers a few weeks ago but the doors that were previously on there still fitted ok

Measure the size of the doors and compare to the originals.

If they're the wrong size it wouldn't be the first time I've heard that about aftermarket doors.

Looks like the door is tight at the front and tight at the back, so for me the bulkhead needs adjusting, but as said, it wouldn't surprise me if the doors wasn't square.
Is their any washers/packers between the bulkhead and out-rigger that you could remove to get a bigger gap?
Failing that you could file a little off the bulkhead foot, or the outrigger stub to gain you some room.
Door alignments can be a nightmare..

More like a tyrolean pebbledash finish. When you've finished greenlaning for the day, you can use it to get the calluses off your feet.
