Series Door Top

I'm in the process of fitting a new door top (from Craddock ) to my series 3. All good apart from the fact that the aperture for the glass is approx 8mm bigger than the old original. Craddock say they don't sell spacers or packing pieces and are not aware of a problem. I'll make up a spacer but wondered if anyone else has had this problem.

Very few are the correct size. Who is the manufacturer.

I got the ones advertised as 'The ones that actually fit'.

Craddocks so I expect its Britpart. Fits the door frame OK but will need packing to fit the glass.

I bought a complete door top including glass from Craddocks. It was Britpart but cheap ****e manufacturing (India?). Didn't need packing apart from the door top.

For the amount of faffing about trying to fit the glass, it's always much easier to buy the door tops ready glazed. I need to replace the rear window channels on my lwb station wagon but it just looks to time consuming and bloody difficult. I never attempt any job where there is a danger that I might run out of swear words.

Replacing the rear side windows channel strip is a fiddly job. It's getting it fixed with those little screws. I ran out of sweaty words

Problem with a glazed one is rust. You cant paint behind the channels.

I know but for the cost of them, I'm happy enough to just replace them again in a few years. I'd expect to get at least 3 years out of em.

Yea, seem to be more of a consumable these days and not expensive.

Finally got the glass in and the door top back on the landy. Never again! I've done the channels in the past fiddly but doable. Had to put aluminium shims in to correct the larger aperture, don't know why its bigger. Made a mistake in using the Series Club plastic channel - impossible to countersink for the screw heads as the gap is to small to get a drill in. Struggle to even get a Phillips head screwdriver in. Plastic brittle. Ended up relying on sikaflex mastic plus the odd screw. That's the passenger door done, I'll be ordering the driver's side this week - fully glazed!

The only downside with new glazed door tops (apart from the extra cost) is the glass isn't kite marred like the original.

I bought door tops direct from a manufacturer in Brum, fitted well and no problems fitting the glass. If you intend keeping your Landie and have deep pockets look at fitting Wolf door tops or Rocky Mountain door tops. Not original but more of a fit and forget.

I would love Wolf door tops, I think both glass panals slide on them don't they? Too expensive though, the wife would have a fit. Plus, I'd rather spend the money on a turner head or professional under seal.

I got galvanised ones ready glazed from sp-4x4.com brilliant company fitted great going to treat myself to some galvo door bottoms next year

I have Rocky Mountain door tops, but I don't think they make them anymore, aluminum last forever, and dont ride along the rail
