Afternoon all , I really need help starting my series 3 petrol 2.25l , Forum has been really helpful in past and I know how important it is to be as detailed as possible so here we go.

10 day ago would just turn over and not start.
I have so far checked the following.
It has Petrol
petrol is pumping through , I checked this by disconnecting pipe to carb.
coil is working , giving out spark.
Battery is new and fully charged.
new dizzy cap , points and condensor.
fuses all good (dont think it makes a difference!)
sparks are reaching plugs which are all sparking off.
oil is full and clean.

Any ideas , someone told me its poss electrical?

Where do I look next , any help would really be appreciated.

Thanks.

fuel filter clear , glass bowl cleaned , coil wire connected , leads in correct order , just remembered something,
the last time it started there was a vibration sound from heat shield at side of manifold , I wonder if wire has come off back of starter and was vibrating on back of shield , will have a look in morning.

Are your rockers moving when you crank?
The rattling might have been the timing chain dropping off?
Assuming it's got a chain, know very little about landy petrol lumps.

If fuel and sparks are there it should at least pop and bang..................... If plugs are not wet after an attempt to start pour an eggcup full of petrol straight down the carb, full choke and turn it over, if it fires it's fuel. If plugs are wet then it's sparks - have you checked for a spark at a plug? Are points new? or have you cleaned them? either way trap a small piece of card [Rizla packet ideal] between the points and pull it out again, couple of times, this cleans the faces of the points where only the slightest amount of crud can have a big negative effect.

This is the weird thing , fuel and sparks are there , plugs are not wet, ive poured petrol into the carb and still nothing , fuel flows freely into carb from fuel line, tried full choke and it tries to turn over, plugs spark , new points and condenser fitted , its a complete mystery.

I think I had a blonde moment there...
Dizzy won't go round if the chains gone AWOL...

If the plugs arent getting petrol, but fuel is going to the carb, it has got to be a blockage in the carb itself. Unless a rag has been left in the inlet manifold or something!

where are you niel if near Gloucester I don't mind sparing you a bit of time to have a look
jockmurray ,

Thanks for the offer , im in Birmingham , ive got 2 days off from today , ill have another good look and see if i can solve problem if not ill message you again. re blue beastys comment wouldnt pouring fuel directly into carb (which ive done) bypass blocked jets?

true if plugs arent getting wet youve little fuel getting through, checking there is some suction wouldnt hurt
